Pastor Billy Williams
Pastor Billy and Vicki Williams are heading up this ministry. Billy is currently undertaking Theological studies at the Queensland Baptist's Malyon College.
Billy is from the Kamilaroi people of Collarenebri, NSW and has also lived in the communities of Canberra , Townsville and now Brisbane. Billy and Vicki have three children, Geordie, Macey and Rory.
Billy's professional career has seen him working in Indigenous affairs for over 12 years. He has worked for Queanbeyan City Council, ATSIC Central and Townsville Regional Office; Commonwealth Employment Service; Queensland Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Sport and Recreation Queensland.
Billy was heavily involved in rugby league, especially Aboriginal teams. He, along with Kevin Aldridge, developed the Bindal Sharks United Sport and Recreation Aboriginal Association. Together they were successful in having an Indigenous team included in the Townsville and District Rugby League competition.
Billy is widely used as a Cross Cultural Communicator, having been a facilitator for over 12 years. He has delivered sessions to NRL players, AFL players, National Sporting Organisations (such as Soccer Australia , Basketball Australia and Australian Cricket), State Sporting organisations, Businesses and many other bodies.
Billy enjoys the bush, getting home to "Colly" and spending time with his family. He has a special interest in identity, and being a 'fair-skinned' Murri, sees this as a big issue for Australia .
Billy came to faith in Jesus 6 years ago. He was not raised in a Christian family but had a dream one morning that he died. In the dream Billy awoke to find himself in what he could only describe as Hell (even though not raised as a Christian, Billy knew enough to realise were he was!). He panicked but realised he was dreaming, yet when he opened his eyes, he was still there. He told no-one, not even his wife, and a month later she came home from work to say that they were invited to the Townsville Baptist Church by a work mate. The very night they went to church they both gave their lives to Christ.
God has put a passion in Billy's heart for his Indigenous people. Now through dhiiyaan, God is providing an opportunity for Billy to realise this passion. Billy dreams of a church filled with Indigenous and Non-Indigenous people, praising God and being set free to live the life that is truly life.
